The Hillcrest Academy baseball team won one and dropped one in their first set of two games in 2020. The Ravens opened the season on Monday with an 8-5 come-from-behind win over the Highland Huskies. Highland jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second and one more in the third. From there, Hillcrest scored once in each of the fourth and fifth innings to climb within 3-2 before Highland answered with two more to go up 5-2. Hillcrest responded with a six run sixth inning to take their first lead and they would hold on for the win.

The Ravens were led at the plate by Aiden Kolck with two hits in three tries. London Schrock drove in two. Noah Miller recorded the win in relief going an inning and two thirds while striking out four. The Huskies Kaige Vonnahme drove in two at the plate to lead the way. On the hill Ethan Paisley took the loss going a third of an inning, giving up four runs.

On Tuesday, Hillcrest dropped their meeting with Burlington Notre Dame 9-0. Pitching controlled things early with Notre Dame starter Mitchell Brent and Raven starter Drew Blauvelt holding down the offenses in a scoreless tie through three innings. The Nikes broke through in the fourth for a single run on an RBI double from Trent Blythe that brought home Drew Chiprez to make it 1-0. The Nikes posted three more in the fifth on four hits to stretch their lead to 4-0 and would put up a five spot with insurance in the top half of the seventh to put the game away. Seven of nine Nikes in the lineup scored runs. Blythe led Notre Dame at the plate with two RBI. Mitchell Brent and his brother Jackson made things tough on Hillcrest hitters all night, shutting out the Raven offense and allowing just one hit, an Eli Ours one out single in the third inning. Blauvelt took the loss going all seven innings, giving up 12 hits and six earned runs. Hillcrest is now 1-1 as they get ready to host Cardinal Wednesday.
