The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team is back on the diamond Wednesday when they host the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets in a non-conference doubleheader. Mid-Prairie opened the season with a 10-0 win in five innings over Northeast Goose Lake. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 10 in class 2A in the first poll of the year from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Hawks are hitting .238 as a team led by Aidan Rath and Karson Grout each with a pair of hits. Brad Tornow leads the Mid-Prairie pitching staff with five innings thrown, no runs allowed and 13 strikeouts.

Eddyville-Blakesburg is 1-1 on the year, losing 12-1 at Albia on Monday and beating Colfax-Mingo 11-1 Tuesday. The Rockets are hitting .417 as a team through their first two games led by Ethan Davis with his .800 average. Reilly Flaig and Zach Leonard each have three RBI. The Rockets have struggled on the mound with a 9.80 team ERA. Ethan Davis has recorded the lone pitching win for the Rockets with a 1.40ERA. These two teams have not met since the 2011 playoffs when the Rockets beat Mid-Prairie 11-1 in the opening round en route to a state championship.
