The Hillcrest Academy baseball and softball teams suffered a sweep Wednesday at the hands of the Cardinal Comets. In a game heard on KCII, the Raven girls were beaten 10-0 in Eldon in five innings. The Comets struck early, scoring twice in the first inning against Hillcrest pitcher Leah Bontrager to go up 2-0. Things would stay that way until the third when Cardinal sent 11 batters to the plate, cranking out seven runs on five hits to expand the lead to 9-0. Cardinal finished the shortened game with a single tally in the fifth. Seven of the nine Comets in the starting lineup scored a run with Maddie Cloke, Rachel Lewman and Ava Ferrell each posting two hits and an RBI. The Ravens collected one hit on the day, a two out Sarah Miller single in the fourth. Bontrager took the loss going all five, giving up 10 runs on nine hits, walking five and striking out four. Kassidy Verrips recorded the win for Cardinal throwing five innings of one hit ball, walking two and striking out nine. With the loss the Ravens are now 0-2 on the year, Cardinal is 2-1.

The Raven baseball team dropped their second straight game, falling to Cardinal 12-0. The Comets were relentless offensively in the six inning game, scoring in each frame but the fifth, going up 3-0 after one, 5-0 through two, 8-0 through four, and 9-0 after five. Kobe Borntrager took the loss on the hill working four and two thirds innings against Cardinal, giving up six hits, nine runs, with four of them earned, walking five and striking out seven. At the plate, the Ravens collected five hits against starter Landon Becker who went six innings, striking out five, but they were unable to break through on the scoreboard. London Schrock led the way offensively with a pair of base hits. With the loss, the Ravens are now 1-2 on the year. Cardinal improves to 1-1.
