It’s the home opener tonight for the Washington baseball team, as they welcome Southeast Conference foe Mount Pleasant for a doubleheader.
The Demons got the 2020 campaign started on the right foot Monday when they defeated Fairfield 14-3. Washington trailed 3-0 early, but answered back by scoring in the final four innings including plating seven runs in the seventh to put the game to bed. Trevor Quigley went 3-for-4 and Reece Mayer knocked in three runs.
Mount Pleasant is 1-1 after splitting a doubleheader against Fort Madison on opening night winning 8-5 and falling 10-4. Chase Williamson and Nik Coble are top returners for the Panthers after .342 and .327 batting averages, respectively last season.
The Demons went 1-3 against the defending conference champs in 2019.
All of the action begins at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Dick Sojka Memorial Field in Washington. Listen to the doubleheader on FM 106.1 KCII starting at 5 p.m.
