The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams are back on the diamond Thursday when they host the Tipton Tigers in River Valley Conference action. The Mid-Prairie baseball team comes into the game with a 2-1 mark on the year. They split a doubleheader in Wellman Wednesday against Eddyville-Blakesburg. The Hawks are ranked No. 10 in the first poll of the season for class 2A from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. By the numbers, the Hawks are hitting .238 as a team, led by Aidan Rath with a .667 average. He also leads the team with four RBI and has scored twice. The Hawks have posted a 5.82 team ERA with Brad Tornow not allowing an earned run in his five inning start to open the year.
Tipton comes into tonight with an overall record of 1-1. They opened the season Monday with a 9-3 loss at North Cedar before rolling through Central City 18-2 on Wednesday. The Tigers are hitting .226 as a team, led by Nile Schuett and his .500 average. He has a team best two RBI through two games. Connor Hermiston has scored twice. On the mound the Tigers have a 10.50 team ERA, with Cole Syring at 8.75 to lead the way. These two teams met for an RVC doubleheader in Tipton last year with Mid-Prairie sweeping by 7-6 and 5-1 scores.
The Mid-Prairie softball team enters play looking for their first win on the season after opening with a 11-0 loss to Northeast Goose Lake in Kalona Monday. The Hawks are hitting .056 as a team through one contest with Rylee Vercande at .500. The Golden Hawks team ERA is sitting at 10.50 with Abbi Patterson at 7.88 after one game. She posted two strikeouts against the Rebel lineup on Monday.
Tipton comes into the game with an overall record of 2-1. The Tigers beat North Cedar 11-1 to open the year Monday and then split a doubleheader with Davenport Central on Tuesday, winning 6-5 before falling 13-1. The Tigers are hitting .277 early on as a team with Britney Ford leading the way at .417 and four runs scored. Kamryn Chapman has driven in three. In the circle, the Tigers have a 3.89 team ERA with Morgan Wendel posting two wins and a 1.31 mark. The Golden Hawks swept the Tigers a season ago winning both games by a combined 21-0 score. Softball action begins tonight at seven in Kalona while the baseball teams will take the field at seven in Wellman.
