The Wellman-Scofield Public Library is prepared and ready to open up the library in a phased and limited approach. Library Director Carol Wilkins has provided patrons with a curbside pickup program for materials. The annual summer reading program continued via mail during their temporary closure due to COVID-19. Seeing how successful these programs have been, she is excited to see patrons back in the library, “I know people want to read. I want people to read, I want them to read the new books I’ve got. I think we’re ready. I know I’m ready.” Patrons will be allowed into the library by appointment only starting in July. This approach, Wilkins says, will give patrons the chance to return to the library while giving staff time to clean and sanitize surfaces and books. Only one individual or family will be allowed in the library at one time, in order to limit contact between library staff and patrons.
