The first official Southeast Conference matchup of 2020 for the Washington softball team will take place tonight when the Demons welcome Fort Madison to town.
The 2-3 Demons picked up their first wins of the season on Thursday when they swept Mount Pleasant 8-5 and 12-0. Cara Linnenkamp led the offense in game one going 3-for-4 with four RBI and Alexa Mitchell went five innings in the circle giving up just one earned run on five hits. The Demon bats broke out for 13 hits in the nightcap with Kellie Dallmeyer going 3-for-3 with two runs knocked in and Anna Venenga had a pair of hits including a solo home run. Linnenkamp did not allow a hit in the shortened three inning contest.
Fort Madison is also 2-3 and they were swept by Burlington on Thursday by 10-0 and 7-3 final scores. Lexi Whaley is 8-for-16 at the dish on the young season to lead the offense and Neeley Rehm has posted a 3.94 ERA in 16 innings of work.
Washington will try to keep a 13-game win streak alive against Fort Madison that dates back to 2016.
