The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams are back on the field tonight when they host the Durant Wildcats. The Mid-Prairie baseball team comes into the game with an overall record of 2-2. After opening the year with wins over Northeast Goose Lake and Eddyville-Blakesburg, the Hawks have dropped back-to-back contests to EBF in the second game a doubleheader and to Tipton on Thursday 14-7. For the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .255 as a team. Aidan Rath leads the way at .583 with a team best seven hits and eight driven in. Brad Tornow has scored nine runs to lead the Hawks. The Mid-Prairie pitching staff has an overall ERA of 4.08, led by Tornow and Keegan Gingerich, each with 1-0 records and no earned runs allowed.

Durant enters play with an overall record of 2-1. The Wildcats have wins over West Liberty and Northeast Goose Lake with their lone loss coming to Iowa City Regina. On the year the Wildcats are hitting .278 led by Drew DeLong at .400 with four hits, three runs scored and four driven in. On the mound the Wildcats have a 1.11 ERA. Nate Dierickx and Ben Orr each have one start and one win recorded with no earned runs surrendered. These two teams split a doubleheader a season ago with Mid-Prairie taking a 12-7 win and Durant a 5-3 victory in the night cap.

The Mid-Prairie softball team is back in action in search of their first win of the year, entering Monday with an overall mark of 0-2 after losses to Northeast Goose Lake and Tipton. The Golden Hawks are hitting .087 as a team led by Lanie Bowlin, Jaselyn Robertson and Rylee Vercande all at the .200 mark. Bowlin has driven in Mid-Prairie’s lone run in the first two contests. The Golden Hawks have a team ERA of 5.38 led by Myah Lugar with a 3.65 ERA in seven innings.

Durant is 2-3 coming into tonight’s game. They are ranked No. 15 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Last week they recorded wins over Union, LaPorte City and Iowa City Regina while falling to Solon, West Liberty and Northeast Goose Lake. The Wildcats swept the Golden Hawks in a doubleheader last season in Durant, winning 7-0 and 8-3. Baseball action begins at 7p.m. at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman.
