The 2020 Class of Washington High School wore caps and gowns and received their diplomas Sunday evening at Case Field. In order to practice social distancing due to COVID-19, the annual ceremony was held at Case Field where people could spread out, limited attendance was permitted, and graduates sat on the football field next to two parents each during the ceremony.

High School Principal Erik Buchholz welcomed those gathered. Superintendent Willie Stone began his speech with a quote from Paulo Coelho, “When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back.”

The class of 2020 has 142 students. This year’s valedictorian is Audrey Wubbena, and salutatorian is Michael Kimball.
