The Columbus Community softball team had an opportunity to capture their first win of the season on Thursday in a tight battle with Mediapolis, but ultimately fell 8-6 in eight innings.
The Bulldogs jumped out of the gates for a 4-0 lead after a pair of innings, but the Wildcats answered right back in the third and fourth to tie it back up. Both teams tacked on a run to send the game to extras when Mediapolis put up a three spot in the eighth to seize the win. Nine Wildcat batters recorded a hit led by a 2-for-4 night from Grace Conwell. Emma Milder, Jobie Lekwa, Bridgett Smith, and Julie Sosa all knocked in runs. Libby White pitched all eight frames in the circle giving up six earned runs on nine hits and striking out five. The baseball squad fell to the Bulldogs 12-0.
Both Columbus teams are 0-3 and look for their first win tonight against Pekin.
