A trip to Packwood was an efficient one for the Highland baseball team, as they downed Pekin 9-4 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference play.
All nine Huskie runs came in two innings with the offense tallying four in the second and tacking on five in the fourth to take a 9-1 advantage and the Panthers could never recover. Connor Grinstead did some damage with one swing of the bat hitting a home run and finishing with five RBI in the game. Mason McFarland added a pair of knocks and brought in two runs. Cael Yeggy tossed six innings giving up one run on four hits and striking out nine. Highland is now 3-1 on the young season.
The softball team did not have as good of luck in Riverside, as they fell 12-4 to the Panthers. It started out prosperous for the Huskies leading 3-1 after the first, but scoring eight runs combined in the third and fourth put Pekin in control and they never looked back. Mackinze Hora and Sarah Burton each had a pair of hits and Kayla Cerny brought in a pair of runs. Grace Batcheller tossed three innings in the circle giving up three earned runs on six hits. The Huskies drop to 2-2.
Both teams get back on the diamond tonight against Van Buren.
