Summer projects around the Highland Community School District will give each building a fresh look ahead of the 2020-2021 school year. The school district approved a $3.7 million bond issue in order to complete these projects, including a new playground at the elementary school, a new HVAC system, updates to the high school music room, and locker room renovations at the high school. Outside of the bond issue, a new gym floor at the high school and epoxy floors at the middle school are being installed, costing approximately $2,000 and $15,000, respectively. Superintendent Ken Crawford says these projects are set to be complete in mid-August and are looking to complete smaller projects during the school year, such as waxing the tiled floors, repainting the parking lots, and thorough cleanings of the buildings as part of their return to learn plan.
