The first ever Mike Orris Scholarship has been awarded by the Washington County Fair Association. The inaugural recipient is Sierra Gillis of WACO Community School District. Gillis will be attending Northwest Missouri State University in the fall and plans to major in special education.
Gillis has spent time in the community volunteering at Camp Reece, Crawfordsville Community Club, Washington County Relay for Life, and Hats for Heroes. She’s a member of the Crooked Creek 4-H Club and the Washington 4-H County Council.
This scholarship was established in honor of Mike Orris who passed away in 2019 after more than 50 years as a volunteer member of the Washington County Fair Association.
