The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team fell to 0-3 on Wednesday after a 15-5, seven inning loss to Durant. Mid-Prairie jumped on the board first with a solo homer from Rylee Vercande in the opening inning. The Wildcats took a lead they would not give up in the third, scoring twice on three hits. They scored in every inning after including four times in the fourth and three in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings on the strength of 19 total hits and five Mid-Prairie errors. The Hawks got one more run in the fourth and three in the fifth. After the game head coach Mallory McArtor talked about what she saw from her team. “The bats came alive tonight, didn’t watch as many pitches and started getting aggressive. We need the defense to come around as well.”

Shannon Head through a complete game for Durant, giving up six hits, five runs, walking six and striking out one. Abbi Patterson took the loss for Mid-Prairie working four and a third innings while surrendering nine runs, six of them earned. Abby Rhodes had four hits and four RBI to lead the Wildcats. Mid-Prairie got a pair of hits each from Vercande and Georgia Nisly. They also each drove in a run. Mid-Prairie will next be in action Friday against Cascade.
