The Hillcrest Academy baseball and softball teams took the field Monday against Southeast Iowa Superconference rival Wapello. The Raven baseball team scored a mercy rule 11-0 win in five frames over the Indians. Hillcrest was hot from the onset, scoring three times in the first, once in the second, three more in the third and five in the fifth to finish the shortened game. All nine Ravens had at least one hit, eight of the nine in the lineup scored at least one run. Noah Miller, Luke Schrock, Aidan Yoder and Josiah Beachy all had two runs. London Schrock, Drew Blauvelt and Aidan Yoder all had two hits. Eli Ours got the win, throwing all five, giving up two hits, walking one and punching out eight. With the win, Hillcrest is now 3-5 on the year.
The Raven girls were beaten by Wapello 6-3. The Arrows scored first in the third to go up 1-0. Hillcrest responded with single runs in the third and fourth to take their first lead of the season at 2-1. Wapello came back with a run in the fifth to tie the game at two and then scored four in the seventh to take control and the win. Esther Hughes and Sarah Miller led Hillcrest with two hits each. Hughes, Meredith Blossom and Evelyn Gerber each drove in a run. Leah Bontrager took the loss in the circle, she went all seven innings, gave up eight hits, six runs, struck out seven and walked two. With the loss, the Ravens are now 0-7 on the year. Hillcrest will take on Winfield-Mt. Union in baseball and softball Tuesday.
