It’s been a fun stretch for the boys and girls of summer at Sigourney, as both teams are enjoying long win streaks and that continued on Wednesday when they swept South Iowa Cedar League foe English Valleys.
The softball squad captured their eighth victory in a row after shutting out the Bears 7-0 on the road. A 3-0 advantage turned into a 6-0 lead in the fourth and that was more than enough run support for Carly Goodwin. The eighth grade pitcher tossed a complete game giving up just two hits, two walks, and striking out 10. Sigourney manufactured 10 hits with Madi Richard, Megan Stuhr, and Kaylee Weber each having two knocks and two RBI. The Savages improve to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference.
The baseball team built a comfortable lead and held on late for a 14-11 win. Both offenses were active early with a 4-4 tie after one. The Savages scratched across runs in the third and fourth before breaking out for a seven run fifth. The Bears battled back from nine down, but never got closer than three runs and Sigourney captured their fourth straight win. Cade Molyneux had himself a night going 3-for-5 with six RBI and Cade Streigle also had three hits. Josh Mohr picked up the win throwing six frames giving up four earned tallies on five hits. Sigourney turned around and edged BGM 8-7 last night to improve to 7-4 on the season and 5-4 in the league.
Both teams face off with New London tonight.
