Washington County Hospital and Clinics has welcomed a new family practitioner to their family medicine center. Dr. David Kuhns joined the medical team at WCHC family medicine and started seeing patients this week. With over 12 years of experience, Kuhns has completed eight mission trips to Honduras and is a board certified Family Medicine Practitioner. Kuhns has worked in Pennsylvania and Virginia before making his way to Washington County to be closer to his wife Melanie’s family. Melanie grew up in Kalona and is an alumna of Mid-Prairie High School. Kuhns tells KCII News how he decided to practice family medicine, “In college I enjoyed sciences and stuff and I wanted to find a way I could also help people with that. One of my mentors was a cousin of mine that was a family doctor and I liked what his scope seemed to be. And that was certainly confirmed through medical school. One of the things to say about the med students who go on to family medicine you just kind of like everything. I do enjoy every aspect, whether it’s an older person, a younger person, the topic we are talking about is all very interesting and I want to know more about it and try to help people.” Kuhns will treat patents from all walks of life, from birth to end of life. He will work out of the WCHC Family Medicine Center.
