The Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams are back on the diamond Monday when they host the Monticello Panthers in a River Valley Conference contest. The Golden Hawk baseball team comes into the game with a 9-3 overall record. They were 7-6 winners over Wilton on Friday night, clinching a share of the south division championship of the River Valley Conference. They are currently ranked No. 8 in class 2A according to the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Mid-Prairie is hitting .334 as a team, seventh best in class 2A. They are led by Aidan Rath at .545 for the season, sixth best average in 2A. He has 18 total his and 17 driven in. His RBI total is 10th in 2A. The Golden Hawks have a team ERA of 3.03, led by Keegan Gingerich with a 2-0 record and 0.76ERA. Brad Tornow has a team best 4-0 overall record. His 35 strikeouts lead the River Valley and are second in the state.

Monticello comes into the game with an overall record of 4-5 on the year. Last time out for the Panthers they lost to West Liberty at home 4-1. For the year Monticello is hitting .233 as a team led by Caleb Sauser at .379 with 11 hits and five driven in. The Panthers have a team ERA of three. They are led on the hill by Sauser with a 2-1 record and 0.93ERA with 18 strikeouts in 15 frames thrown. These two teams met a year ago with the Golden Hawks scoring a 6-1 win.

The Mid-Prairie softball team enters play in search of their first win of the season after coming tantalizingly close Friday, falling to Wilton 6-5 after taking a 5-3 lead into the seventh. For the season, the Golden Hawks are hitting .146 as a team, led by Rylee Vercande at .350 with seven hits, four runs scored a home run and one RBI. In the circle, the Golden Hawks have a 6.89 ERA led by Myah Lugar at 5.02 with an 0-3 record in 15 and a third innings thrown.

Monticello is 2-7 for the year. Last game they fell to West Liberty 12-0. For the season the Panthers are hitting .284 as a team, led by Katie Roher at .400 with 10 hits and two RBI. The Panthers have a 4.80 team ERA led by Mallory Steiner at 4.39 with a 1-3 record in 44 and two thirds innings of work. These two teams met a season ago with the Golden Hawks taking an 8-7 victory.

Baseball will get underway at 7p.m. at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman. Softball will play at 7p.m. at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona.
