The Sigourney baseball and softball squads hit the road to New London on Friday and left town with a split.
The softball team stayed red-hot, as they picked up their ninth straight victory with an 8-2 triumph over the Tigers. Holding a slight 3-2 advantage after six, the Savages exploded for five runs in the seventh for more than enough insurance. Megan Stuhr went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and Madelynn Hornback registered three RBI. Hornback picked up the win in the circle throwing all seven frames giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out 10.
The Savage baseball team had a hard time generating any offense in a 10-1 defeat to snap a five-game win streak. Cade Streigle had two of the team’s three knocks and Levi Crawford gave up three earned tallies on five hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
The softball squad is now 11-1 and baseball is 7-5. Both teams return to action tonight against Colfax-Mingo.
