Each week Washington’s Central Park becomes a farmers’ market for people to get locally sourced items. Shoppers find locally grown fruits and vegetables, beef from area farmers, flowers for bouquets, handmade items like soaps and lotions, and ready to eat meals. Main Street Washington Director Sarah Grunewaldt says there are some new vendors this year, “It’s been really good. We have a new vendor that just joined us this past week from another market who had been cancelled in-person. She grows and sells cut flowers, which are absolutely stunning. We have several other new vendors that are coming in the next few weeks who do baked goods, and fresh eggs, and fresh produce. So, it’s been all around pretty good.”
The market was delayed in starting the season due to COVID-19, and a few changes are still in place to increase safety. Grunewaldt encourages people to help in such efforts, “So far things are going really well. I think we had a little bit of a slow start, just because people were unsure of coming out and being in public. But people have been really respectful of the social distancing. And the vendors have been really great to work with in creating a little bit of an extra buffer to help customers be safe.”
The market is open each Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
