The Golden Hawks were led in the victory over the Knights by Brad Tornow and Aidan Rath who combined to go seven of eight at the plate with three homers, eight driven in and seven runs scored. The Golden Hawks enter Wednesday ranked No. 6 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. For the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .331 as a team, sixth best in class 2A. They are led at the plate by Rath who is at .571 this year, third best in Iowa in 2A. He has a team best 20 hits, 21 RBI and 15 runs scored. On the mound, Mid-Prairie has a 2.85 team ERA, led by Brad Tornow at 0.78 with a perfect 5-0 overall record and a state best 42 strikeouts in 22 innings of work. After Tuesday’s win at North Cedar, Mid-Prairie head coach Andy Greiner talked about what he likes about the way his team is playing. “I really like the way the offense is coming into it’s own. It’s been a few games, a couple of weeks now that the guys have done a nice job of dropping the trajectory of the baseball, hitting line drives and hard ground balls through both the 5-6 hole and opposite field. Just a really great job on the offensive approach and cutting down strikeouts.”

Anamosa comes in with an overall and conference record of 3-6. Last time out the Blue Raiders beat North Cedar 8-4 on Friday. For the year they are hitting .231 as a team, led by Grahm Humpal and Trae Klatt each at .308 for the season. They both have eight hits, Klatt has a team best six RBI. On the mound Anamosa has a stellar 2.20 ERA, led by Jake Jess at 1.40 with 20 innings thrown with a 1-1 overall record. Out of the pen Seth Schoon has a 1.17 mark in six innings. These two teams met a year ago with the Golden Hawks taking a 6-3 win.

The Mid-Prairie softball team is 1-9 on the season after a tough 2-1 loss at North Cedar Tuesday. For the season the Golden Hawks are hitting .198, led by Rylee Vercande with a .419 average. She leads the Hawks with 13 hits, one home run and six runs scored. In the circle, the Hawks have a team ERA of 6.22, led by Myah Lugar at 5.95 with an 0-3 overall record in 20 innings of work. Senior Abbi Patterson has the team’s lone win in the circle at 1-4 and a 6.74 ERA in 35 and a third innings. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Mallory McArtor talked about what she wants to see from her team down the stretch to playoff time. “Just taking each game by game. Going in with the same energy. We go up with the mindset that we want to hit the ball, get on, move the runners, do our job and do it well. We have to eliminate mental errors and go out and have fun. Hopefully this week we can pile on game after game and go into the playoffs with a couple more wins.”

Anamosa is 10-1 overall and 9-1 in the River Valley Conference entering tonight’s game. The Blue Raiders were a 9-7 winner at Wilton Tuesday. In the circle, Anamosa has a team ERA of 1.13, second best in 3A. The Blue Raiders are led by Kalli Minger who has thrown all 68 innings with a 9-1 record.
