Iowa taxpayers have a few weeks remaining until state and federal income taxes are due. Under Governor Kim Reynolds’ emergency proclamations, the due date for state income tax forms were extended to July 31. There will be no late-filing or underpayment penalties for those taxpayers who comply with the extended filing and payment deadlines. Interest on any unpaid taxes will be due beginning August 1. The Internal Revenue Service has also extended the deadline for federal income tax filings to July 15. Taxpayers can also defer federal income tax payments due on April 15 to July 15 with no penalties or interest, regardless of amount owed. Individuals who need more time to file their taxes beyond the July 15 deadline can request an extension by filling out a 4868 form through their tax professional, tax software, or through the free file link on the IRS website.
