The Kalona public pool has seen a steady flow of swimmers enjoying the water since reopening on June 24. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says in the past three  weeks, between 85-100 people visited the pool per day across both of the shifts. The pool’s current capacity limit is set at 60 individuals, and Schlabaugh says that limit has not caused issues, “We’re able to meet the demand and not cause angst among the public by showing up and not being able to get in. That was our biggest concern. In year’s past they could just put down their money and go in and this year we have to really look at the numbers. We haven’t seen a lot of that, if any, in Kalona and I think that’s a testament to the communication that went out.” At this time, patrons will only be allowed to attend one shift per day, and once leaving the pool facility, readmission will not be allowed. Pool staff will clean and sanitize the pool area before and after shifts are complete. The first shift is 1-3 p.m. and the second is 4-6:30 p.m.
