The 2020 postseason is here! Saturday night is the next chapter in the storied Hillcrest Academy against Lone Tree rivalry. The Raven baseball team comes into the game red hot, winners of four straight with a 5-5 overall record. Last time out they hammered Columbus nine days ago 10-0. Drew Blauvelt led the win over the Wildcats with three hits and three RBI. For the season, the Ravens are hitting .285 at the plate, led by Eli Ours at .419 with 13 total hits. London Schrock and Jace Rempel have each driven in a Raven best seven. On the hill, Hillcrest has a 3.32 ERA, led by Schrock at 0.49 through 14 innings thrown and a 1-1 overall record. This week, Hillcrest head coach Danny Hershberger talked about what his team did with the extended time off and a rematch with the Lions. “First two thirds of that game against Lone Tree, we played the way we wanted to. For whatever reason we weren’t able to finish the job. Whether it was lack of confidence, losing our focus or Lone Tree playing much better at the end. We told the guys that night we have to learn from it. Our guys have done a great job this season responding to adversity and making the most of it in future chances.”
Lone Tree comes into the game also at .500, 6-6 on the season. In their last game they fell to Highland 12-7 despite a three hit and two run night from Adam Knock. On the year the Lions are hitting .279 as a team led by Harmon Miller at .452 with 14 hits. He has a team best 18 RBI. On the mound the Lion ERA is 5.23 led by Keegan Edwards at 3.60 across 11 and two thirds innings with a 1-1 record. This week Lone Tree head coach Mike Close talked about his team’s recent action and the playoff game with the Ravens. “I think the key for us on the mound is not giving free passes with walks and hit batters. We also need to take care of business against the bottom of the order. Defensively we can’t give up extra outs. Offensively, we have to cut down on strikeouts. We are a good base running team, we need to get guys on so we can take advantage of that.”
These two teams met in a wild game during the regular season with Lone Tree scoring a come from behind 14-13 victory after nearly being mercy ruled, trailing 13-2 in the fifth inning. You can hear all of the action live tonight on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 4 and first pitch at 4:30p.m. From Burlington Notre Dame High School.
