A severe thunderstorm swept across eastern Iowa Saturday evening and the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage as a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Washington County. The warning was issued by the National Weather Service out of the Quad Cities at 6:51 p.m. and expired at 7:45 p.m. The NWS stated that radar indicated wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and quarter-sized hail as the storm moved southeast at 50 miles per hour. Storm reports included hail 1.75 inches in diameter in North Liberty, 1.5 inches in University Heights, and one-inch in diameter in Iowa City. Wind gusts in Washington were recorded at 32 miles per hour and temperatures dropped down to 77 degrees.
Five members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage of the storm. And had the power gone out, KCII would stay live on the air with our emergency back-up generators.
