The most recent unemployment figures show nearly 10,700 people in the state filed for initial unemployment the week ending July 4th. According to Iowa Workforce Development, the number of continuing weekly unemployment claims for that week was 135,177 people. That’s about 6,000 fewer than the week before.
Nearly $32 million in unemployment insurance benefits were paid between June 28 and July 4th. Industries in Iowa with the most claims were manufacturing (3,448), self-employed or independent contractors (1,670), health care and social assistance (833), accommodation and food services (586), and retail trade (519).
