As part of their return to learn plan development, the Mid-Prairie School District asked parents and staff members their feelings about the upcoming school year. Over 570 parents responded to the survey sent out earlier this month. Results show that half of those that responded say if school started tomorrow, they would send their children to school, but had some COVID-19 health and safety concerns. A majority of parents also agreed that mask use for students and staff should be optional, not required. In contrast, 160 staff members responded to similar questions, but gave different responses. Staff members who responded felt strongly that mask use should be required for both staff and students at the middle school and high school, and voluntary at the elementary school for students. Around 40% of staff members who responded also had moderate health and safety concerns about COVID-19 if school were to start tomorrow. The Mid-Prairie school board will use this information to better craft their return to learn plan before the start of school on August 24. The school board will reveal more information regarding their plans at a special school board meeting on July 27th.
