Solon is the destination for the Washington baseball team tonight when they start up their postseason against the Spartans in a class 3A substate quarterfinal.

The Demons finished the regular season 9-7 after Trevor Quigley walked off Pella in a 4-3 final on Monday. Reece Mayer leads the offense on the year with a .408 batting average and 17 runs knocked in. Ethan Patterson supports a 1.84 ERA in 19 innings on the hill.

The Spartans finished second in the WaMaC east division with a 13-7 overall record. Solon is receiving votes in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings, but they fell on Monday to Mount Pleasant 12-9. Seven Spartans bat over .300 including Cael O’Neill with a .378 BA and Cole Arduser has knocked in 20 runs. Blake Timmons has yet to give up a run in 14 innings on the bump.

Head Coach of the Demons Nathan Miller knows the challenge ahead with the Spartans. “They are a solid ball club that is very fundamental. Their field is a minor league type field and is a program filled with tradition. Every team has to focus on themselves and for us we need to increase our number of hits. If we want to make a run we need to swing it well and we have those capabilities with the group that we have.”

The chance to keep their season alive gets underway at 7 p.m. tonight in Solon. Listen to the playoff action on FM 106.1 KCII.
