drought-update-7-17-29

Drought conditions in Iowa have spread over the last week. According to the National Weather Service 5.77% of the state is in severe drought, 21.45% is in moderate drought, and over half of Iowa is abnormally dry. Most of the dry conditions are in the western half of the state, except for abnormally dry conditions stretching from Muscatine County up to Jackson County. Nearly 733,000 Iowans live in the drought areas statewide.

That drought data was through July 14th and did not account for the rain that fell on Wednesday across much of the state. On Wednesday, Washington received 1.7 inches of rain. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities reports 1.3 inches of rain in Fairfield and 2.3 inches in Columbus Junction.

Hot and humid conditions are expected throughout the weekend, listen to KCII for weather updates.
