Undefeated HLV was pushed to the brink on Tuesday in a district baseball semifinal against Keota, but the Warriors walked-it-off for a 3-2 victory to end the Eagles’ season.
The game was tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Keota starter Colten Clarahan had to be pulled for the pitch count rule. A double off the wall with two outs in the inning brought in a run and the Warriors captured the victory. Clarahan tossed 6 2/3 innings on the hill giving up five hits and striking out 10. Senior Nolan Verstraete brought in a run for the Eagles.
Head Coach Dakota McCombs tells KCII Sports his team laid it all on the line. “It was a great game to be involved with. We had a couple errors, but you can’t ask for everything to be perfect, so I am happy with how we played. We took a really good team down to the wire.”
Keota ended the 2020 campaign with a 7-8 record and lose two players to graduation in Verstraete and Tyler Waterhouse.
