Three separate contracts were awarded for work to be done at the English River Watershed. This bid package includes fertilizing, seeding, installing farm field fences, woven wire, and pipes. The City of Kalona is the controlling entity of the English River Watershed project, and thus the city council has the authority to approve and award contracts. Contracts awarded include: Leffler Dirtworks for a total of $268,442.40, Seaton Construction for a total of $357,167.80, and Stek Earthmoving for a total of $197,128.48. These improvements will take place in Iowa and Poweshiek counties and will be completed by September 30, 2021. The English River Watershed project was created to reduce flood hazards and improve water quality in Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk, Poweshiek, and Washington counties.
