While the number of boots on the Washington County Fairgrounds this week are far fewer, the number of hooves, beaks and tails are on par with years past. Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator Amy Green says that livestock entry numbers are similar to a traditional year, “That tells me a lot of things. That tells me that the kids and the families have been at home working. And they are excited and they are hopeful, and they want to be at the county fair with those animals. And so, it really does help us know that the work is worth it. And that these kids do, not only deserve it, but they really do want it, and are hopeful for it in the ways that they have registered. So, we’re excited to haves those exhibitors here.”

On the other hand, the non-livestock entries are down significantly, Green estimates below 50%. She says they usually have about 1,000.

The fairgrounds are closed to the public for COVID-19 safety measures, but you can hear results on KCII and find them listed at KCIIRadio.com here. In addition, the livestock shows are being streamed online for public viewing.
