Going, going, gone – the Washington County Fair’s annual livestock auction is being held with a new look this year. The traditional auction isn’t being held in-person due to COVID-19 safety measures, so KDK Sales is hosting one online. Washington County 4-H and FFA members will be selling their livestock projects. Greg Koch with KDK Sales explains what to expect, “Well, in these trying times, somebody needed to do something for the kids that were kind of left out in the cold when the livestock auction was cancelled. They put a lot of time and effort into these animals that they’ve grown, and developed, and worked really hard with. And we felt that they needed an option to market those animals to the public like they always have. So, we have provided services to do an online auction for the animals that they chose to market.” There is no cost to the sellers or bidders to register, and all proceeds from the sale will go to the student.

Koch adds that moving to an online platform has provided another learning opportunity for the exhibitors, “It’s kind of a neat thing because they’ve had to learn a whole different marketing strategy other than just taking them to the auction at the county fair. They’ve kind of had to do some digital presentations. Some of the students have done some videos, pictures, you know, it’s more of a digital marketplace like we’re coming to on everything but it’s a new wrinkle for them this year. And they’ve really stepped up. Some of their videos and pictures were really, really good and I’ve smiled every time that I’ve looked at them as they’ve come into us.”

The auction opens Thursday and closes Friday. Koch adds that they can assist with transportation of purchases if needed. Click here to preview the auction and to register as a bidder.
