One game separates the Washington softball team from the class 4A state tournament and their opportunity to punch their ticket is tonight when they make the haul to Manchester and face #2 West Delaware in a class 4A regional final.
The Demons (10-17) opened the postseason with two exciting wins including a 10-7 come from behind victory over Grinnell on Thursday and a 3-1 defensive gem over Clear Creek-Amana on Saturday. Cara Linnenkamp is peaking at the right time in the circle allowing just one run on Saturday and that dropped her season ERA to 4.83. Kaitlyn Mitchell supports a .395 average at the dish and Linnenkamp has brought in 26 tallies.
West Delaware supports a 20-4 record and won the WaMac East division. The Hawks are currently riding a 14-game win streak including a 12-2 victory over Xavier on Saturday in the semis. Five players support at least a .400 batting average including Macey Kleitsch with .522. The senior is also a formidable foe in the circle with a 1.05 earned run average in 133 innings.
