Projects across the Highland Community School District are set to be completed before school starts, with the exception of one swing on the new playground at the elementary school. The Highland School Board recently approved a change order to the playground project worth $6,800. This was made to install a new glide swing, which provides a way for students in wheelchairs to be able to enjoy the new playground. Within the change order, a hitch will be installed to be able to lock the swing in place and a fence will surround the swing so other students don’t run into it when it’s in use. Superintendent Ken Crawford says this swing is being shipped from Australia and will take 14 weeks to arrive; long after the playground project is completed. This playground project is part of a $3.4 million bond issue for multiple projects district wide, including a new HVAC system, updates to the high school music room, and locker renovations at the high school.
