Farmers across the state had 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork even though some areas of Iowa received over three inches of rain in the last week. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 69% of corn is silking or beyond, which is nine days ahead of last year and three days ahead of the five-year average. In southeast Iowa, 73% of corn is silking and 13% has reached the dough stage.
Across the Hawkeye State 74% of soybeans are blooming, which is two weeks ahead of last year and five days ahead of the average. In southeast Iowa, 62% of soybeans are blooming with 14% setting pods.
Statewide corn condition is rated at 80% good to excellent and soybean condition is 79% good to excellent.
