The Henry County Freedom Rock project saw a successful fundraising effort this month, but still has a long road ahead until completion. The Freedom Rock is a large rock in each county that is painted by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II with images of veterans to honor their service to the country. Henry County is the only county in the state that does not yet have a freedom rock. The Henry County Freedom Rock team recently held a fundraiser that brought in $1,537. Event organizer Linda Jacobi says to bring Sorensen to Winfield to paint the rock, it will cost $10,000, which includes artists fees, supplies, hotel, milage, tent rental, but does not include the cost of landscaping and pavers. Another fundraiser is being planned for fall 2020 as the team has raised approximately $3,000 toward the project so far. Those that would like to donate to this project can do so by sending donations to Winfield City Hall.
