The development of the Shiloh annexation in Kalona is set to get started with plans for a new residential subdivision. Named the North Ridge Subdivision, the growing city looks to establish 64 new lots in the first phase of this project. Work was recently done by crews from Maxwell Construction to install a permanent water main for this new subdivision, costing approximately $70,000. The developer, CJ Moyna and Sons, purchased approximately 280 acres of the 600 acres of land annexed into Kalona for this North Ridge Subdivision and renamed the area Southtown. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the city council has received preliminary plat designs and they are excited to see this project moving forward, “I think we’re really excited to have the ability to have some inventory come online. And to also have a substantial amount of inventory in some land that hasn’t been easily available, aesthetically, to our community. It is a unique property and I think the lots will reflect that. I think it’s important that we kind of get started here in the near future so we can see that schedule come and hopefully we’ll have some lots online or the developer will in early 2021.” Schlabaugh says the community can expect more items on city council agendas discussing this subdivision development in the coming months. The city is also working closely with the Washington County Conservation Department in order to find ways to manage the remaining acres of land around the North Ridge Subdivision.
