A community art project in Washington to raise funds for murals has been postponed to the spring. The Chair-A-Thon has local people paint old chairs into masterpieces. The Chair-A-Thon auction has been moved from August to the spring of 2021.
Washington Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Alisha Davis says how funds raised from the auction will be used, “So our first place that we want to have a community mural is on the State Theatre. So, on the side of the building facing the four lanes is where we plan to have a community mural. And the State Theatre is really excited about it. We are working with different artists who do these projects to get some bids and designs and things like that. And so we are looking at next year, so 2021.”
People who would like to paint a chair can sign up for $10 at the Chamber of Commerce. Examples of chairs that have been completed are on display in store windows in downtown Washington. The Chamber is working with the LET’s Center and Repurpose It on the project.
