Iowa’s corn and soybeans continue to be ahead of the five-year average. According to the US Department of Agriculture, 87% of Iowa’s corn is silking or beyond and it is 12 days ahead of last year and three days ahead of the average. In southeast Iowa, 84% of corn is silking and 30% has reached the dough stage.
Soybeans blooming reached 85%, so the crop is over two weeks ahead of last year and six days ahead of the average. In southeast Iowa, 77% of soybeans are blooming and 45% are setting pods.
Statewide corn is rated at 15% excellent, 62% good, and 18% fair while soybeans are rated at 15% excellent, 61% good, and 19% fair.
