While the annual Kalona Days celebration had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the city will still honor individuals and businesses who made an impact in the community. This will mark the eighth year the city will present community awards to nominated individuals and businesses. Instead of announcing the winners at Kalona Days, the city will instead mail out the results to community members and announce it on their social media platforms. Last year’s winners include Elieen Yotty and Pat Anderson winning individual awards, Phil Ropp, Myron Ropp, and Warren Ropp of Farmers Supply Sales Incorporated, Julie Gordinier, Leanne Bender, and Matt Freel of Feed the Kids Mid-Prairie, and Amy Spencer from Food for All winning business awards. Community members can nominate an individual or business for this award by filling out the award form by August 17, which can be found on the city of Kalona website. Award winners will be announced on September 3.
