The Highland School Board met Wednesday night and approved a face covering requirement and a hybrid learning model to start the school year. Students will be split into two groups and will attend classes on alternate days. Group A will start school on August 24, and group B will start on August 25. This will apply to all grade levels in the district. The school board voted unanimously in favor of the face covering requirement for students and staff until further notice. Superintendent Ken Crawford says the school district will have face shields on hand for students who do not bring a face covering to school. After a debate on how long the hybrid model could be in place, the board voted unanimously in favor of the hybrid model of learning for the first four weeks of school. The school board will reassess on September 8 whether or not to change to 100 percent on-site learning.
