Ethan Hunt may not have been able to compete for a state title this past spring due to no track season, but the Washington graduate will have another opportunity to show off his talent next spring, this time at the next level.

On Monday, Hunt put pen to paper his intent to run track at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids. The graduating senior tells KCII Sports why he wanted to join the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school.

“I felt like they were the best fit for me. They have a really good nursing program and that is what I want to do in the future. I talked to the coaches and they were all about family so I appreciate that.” Continuing his track career was not in the plans for Hunt for much of the summer, until Demon coach Steve Roth got involved. “I was planning on going to Kirkwood to get my nursing degree, but during baseball season I got a text from Coach Roth saying Mount Mercy would be a good place for me and that they were interested. I called them a couple days later, went on a visit, and now we are here.”

Hunt finished sixth at state in the 400m hurdles in 2019 and was a favorite to take the crown in 2020. He plans on running that event for the Mustangs and possibly the 4x400m relay as well as the 800m.

The Washington alum was a four-sport athlete in high school competing in football, basketball, track, and baseball.
