Three members of the Washington Police Department were promoted at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Police Chief Jim Lester said five people applied for the three positions and that the department has strong leadership. Mayor Jaron Rosien applauded them, “I’ll say right now congratulations to Lt. Altenhofen. Congratulations to Sergeant Chalupa. And congratulations to Sergeant Altenhofen. Excited to have you and your families here. We also take a moment to thank everyone who applied for promotion, it shows that there’s a lot of momentum in your department and desire to lead, which is exciting.”

Shamus Altenhofen is now a lieutenant, and Benjamin Altenhofen and Jason Chalupa were promoted to the rank of sergeant. All three are Washington High School graduates, as well as Indian Hills Community College and Buena Vista University.
