Mid-Prairie Transportation Director Teresa Hartley has released guidance on how transportation will look for this upcoming school year. Hartley has developed this plan in accordance with Iowa Department of Public Health information, Washington County Public Health guidance, and conversations with Mid-Prairie administration and school board members. Since Mid-Prairie transports more than 450 students each day, students and staff will be required to wear face coverings on buses at all times, assigned seats will be enforced, and family members will be seated together. These changes will fulfill the transportation guidelines created by the Iowa Department of Education, keeping students and staff healthy when social distancing on buses is not possible. Windows will also be open when possible to allow as much ventilation and air flow as possible.
The district has purchased a Hotsy disinfectant machine in order to quickly and efficiently disinfect buses with a mist. This will be done in between new bus runs throughout the day. The district had to also modify their bus routes in order to comply with the new guidelines. Elementary students who live more than two miles from the school will be able to use transportation, and high school students who live more than three miles from the school will also have buses available.
