A severe thunderstorm blew across Iowa Monday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue severe thunderstorm warning for a portion of Washington County starting at 11:45 a.m. The KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage of the storm.
The storm produced strong winds and caused tree damage across the area. Trees were blown down along Highway 1 by the Skunk River north of Brighton, Highway 22 near Wellman, at the intersection of 11th and Adams in Washington, and across the City of Wellman. The Washington Fire Department responded to the 400 block of East Main Street and the 900 block of North 4th Avenue where power lines were sparking. Power outages were reported across the area with over 7,000 customers without power in the KCII-listening area.
Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen reminds people to give emergency crews room to work as they clean up downs trees, branches, and power lines.
Five members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage of the storm. And had the power gone out, KCII would stay live on the air with our emergency back-up generators.
