We continue our review of the last decade for Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk athletics with a look at the 2014-15 school year.

The Mid-Prairie wrestling team had a trio of grapplers advance to the state wrestling tournament in Des Moines. At Wells Fargo were sophomore Duncan McCain at 113lbs, junior Cameron Tolander at 182lbs and sophomore Levi Duwa at 195lbs. McCain finished with a record of 3-3 in fifth place. Duwa finished 2-3 for the tournament in eighth place.

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls track teams sent a combined lucky 13 events to the state meet in Des Moines. Eight of those events came from the Golden Hawk girls. The Mid-Prairie 4×100 team of Lexi Duwa, Emily Cayton, Ali Butters and Alex Rath was fifth. the same team was 13th in the 4×200. Anna Hostetler went eighth and ninth in the 1500 and 3000 respectively. The Golden Hawk distance medley team of Duwa, Rath, Greta Schmidt and Abby Tornow was 14th. Duwa took 16th in the 200, the 4×800 team of Tornow, Hannah Van Roekel, Schmidt and Maddi Zahradnek was 19th and Tornow took 22nd in the 800.

At the boys meet, Levi Duwa was ninth in the discus and 10th in the shot put. Isaiahn Powell finished ninth in the long jump. Jared Draper was 15th in the 3200 and Colin Weber 17th in the 400.

The Mid-Prairie cross country teams continued their strong tradition with the girls qualifying for the state meet in Fort Dodge as a team. The Hawks finished sixth in class 2A with 169 points. Mid-Prairie was led by Anna Hostetler’s sixth place finish in 15:38. Other Mid-Prairie runners included Maddi Zahradnek 24th, Abby Tornow 30th, Greta Schmidt 70th, Calli Shaw 77th, Hannah Van Roekel 78th and Shelby Zahradnek 99th.

The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team finished a 15-8 season, going 13-5 in the River Valley Conference. Taylor Kurtz led the way with 203 points and 152 rebounds. She pulled down the third most boards in the RVC. Ali Riggan had 40 assists, 10th most in the River Valley. Alex Rath led Mid-Prairie with 48 steals, fifth in the conference.

The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team finished with an 8-7 overall record. Jordan Ulin led the way with 10 goals scored. Nathan Reed had 96 saves with a 74% save percentage.

Mid-Prairie softball was 26-15 overall, finishing 17-5 in the River Valley Conference as runners-up. Mid-Prairie was fifth in the state with a .367 team batting average. Three Mid-Prairie players hit over .450 on the year with Alex Rath at .540, sixth in class 3A. Lexi Duwa was .486, fourth in the RVC and Amber Kral hit .455 seventh in the River Valley. Taylor Kurtz finished with a 2.60ERA, eighth best in the River Valley. Monday will feature the 2015-16 academic year for athletics at Mid-Prairie in our decade in review.
