Schools in the KCII listening area escaped the powerful severe storms on Monday with minor damages. Highland Superintendent Ken Crawford and Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider say both school districts saw some trees damaged on school grounds with no damage to the school buildings. Schneider says the high school building near Wellman was without power for a few days, but it has since been restored. More than 700 crews are working alongside Alliant Energy to replace over 2,500 power poles and restore power to those affected by Monday’s derecho in eastern Iowa. The company announced over half of the customers have had their power restored and look to have power available to a significant number of customers by the end of the day Tuesday.
