Iowa’s continuing weekly unemployment claims fell below 100,000 people for the first time last week since the first week of April. According to Iowa Workforce Development, it dropped to 92,853 people for the week of August 2nd through the 8th. Iowa saw a decrease of 11,463 continuing weekly unemployment claims during the week ending August 8th when compared to the previous week. The number of initial unemployment claims tallied up to 5,282.
Unemployment benefit payments totaled just over $27 million for the week. Industries with the most claims include manufacturing (1,132), self-employed or independent contractors (539), health care and social assistance (514), retail (421), and accommodation or food services (373).
