A second reading to ban fireworks, a lawsuit regarding a city well, a sewer line relocation for a business expansion, and the search process for a city clerk are on the agenda for the Washington City Council. According to a memo from City Administrator Brent Hinson, it appears that the city will be heading for trial with Northway Well and Pump regarding the well #6 project. The city attorney recommends hiring a litigation specialist for the case. The company had been hired by the city to improve the city’s well #6 and the project had multiple change orders and delays. In a 2018 council meeting, Mayor Jaron Rosien said that with 143 days added to the contract they were still behind 60 days at that time, and there was the possibility of $1,000 per day in liquidated damages. In the same meeting, Hinson said he’d “not recommend this contractor again for anything.”

In another memo, Hinson explains that Bazooka Farmstar is looking to expand their plant by nearly 29,000 square feet. To expand, a city sewer line would need to be rerouted. The cost is estimated at $213,000 and up to 50% of the cost could be covered by a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant.

The council will hold the second reading of an ordinance to ban fireworks usage in the city.

The meeting will conclude with a workshop to discuss possible traffic or parking changes on South Avenue C and the search process for a new city clerk. Current City Clerk Illa Earnest is retiring later this year. The council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday and it can be accessed remotely via Zoom.
